The old one doesn't cut it in Make a great awesome graphics, great atmosphere, insane attention to detail, great weapon feel, interesting champion mechanic game that fans have been waiting for more than 10 years : check. Completely close it off, don't include modding or mapping support, don't distribute the server binaries for hosting games, don't even include offline bots while at the same time waving the middle finger at the content creators who have played an essential role in keeping the franchise alive for years : check.
It's only fair that the people that enjoy loot boxes get the same treatment as the old fans for which a feature complete game is important : check. Both examples you gave have one fundamental difference when compared to QC. They both have some sort of server executable stored locally on your computer, integrated alongside the client.
The complete game, not just the client like "games as a service" like QC have. You don't need to upload your mod during testing. You have locally both the client and a modified server part. For the same reason Starcraft 2 is one of the last Blizzard games that still works without an internet connection.
Provided you downloaded the MP maps you can still play skirmish vs AI as well as the campaign. Doing mods requires you to have access to some sort of server binary. The client is not sufficient.
Access to the client only would severely limit the modding capabilities. You're right that the veterans would not be satisfied by something like Snapmap for QC. If the devs were going to do it might as well do it right than spend the effort to develop something that is severely limited in scope and functionality.
Give people the ability to launch their private testserver similar to what possible currently - or heck make the whole quack map editor copyrighted, message me id! This may sound clumsy, but it could also offer new possiblities for example multiple people editing maps at the same time. Giving the audience the ability to create content for id would be a smart move that could solve several problems the game currently has imho. It could draw in a larger playerbase and offer new ways to play the game for the more casual players.
I love quake, I really do, but a classic hardcore Arena shooter with few modes and maps is just a hard sell and has been since or so. That summs it up nicely.Home Discussions Workshop Market Broadcasts. Change language. Install Steam. Store Page. Quake II Store Page. Does anyone know of a link to a video tutorial on how to install the xp mod?
I'm new to this kind of stuff and don't want to mess anything up. I've tried searching YouTube and Google and haven't been able to find any detailed installation information. Showing 1 - 15 of 15 comments. Video tutorial? Are you sure? Download last release from modDB, unpack in to quake2 folder and install openAL drivers from openal folder. Just extract the whole thing inside your Quake 2 folder.
If, like with the GOG release, music is not working with the mod installed. Or if you cannot lower music volume. Just go in your Quake 2 directory and look for the music folder.
Transfert it into your baseq2 directory and go in option. Then the music slider should work. Then, again, I own the GoG version So you might not have the same issues as me when trying to properly run it. The music is, IMO, a big part of the game.
Also, no offense meant, RTFM.
