There are quite a few reasons why your Jeep Grand Cherokee could be idling rough. An internal combustion engine needs air, fuel, and spark in order to achieve ignition. When one or more of these variables is off it can lead to a rough idling condition. Most of the time the culprit is going to be the ignition system, although there are a myriad of other causes. Hopefully, the check engine light is on. It can tell you a lot about what is going on with your Grand Cherokee. You can either go to the local parts store and ask them to scan the vehicle for you, or you can do this yourself.
Most of them will do that as a courtesy obviously they want to sell the parts. Alternatively, code scanners are pretty affordable. Having one of your own can save you a ton of time. Here are the most common problems that would cause a Jeep Grand Cherokee to idle rough:. Here are the main components of the ignition system, as well as what would cause them to make your Grand Cherokee idle roughly.
It could be so clogged that there is not enough air getting through for quality idle conditions. Of all the sensors equipped in your vehicle, the O2 sensors may have it the hardest. They deal with super hot exhaust that can cover them in deposits that can leave them ineffective.
If an oxygen sensor goes bad, it can make your Grand Cherokee run too lean or rich. A super lean running engine will often idle rough. The fuel injection systems job is to atomize the fuel into fine mist. If a fuel injector has an issue with this process, it will either let too much or too little fuel into the combustion chamber relative to the amount of air.
There are many reasons why a fuel injector may go bad, as well as different symptoms relative to how they went bad. For more, check out Jeep Grand Cherokee bad fuel injector symptoms. Funny picture thread! Reader Rides. Thread: 4. Join Date Aug Posts 7. I have done an oil change, checked motor mounts and trans mount they seem to be ok. It runs rough not to the violently shaking, but rough enough to get a massage while sitting still in Park, Neutral and all drive gears while sitting still except for the first few second when I start up cold when the idle is still around and then it drops to normal around rpm's.
I just recently had it almost stall a few times when stopping at a light RPM's did not seem to drop when it started to stumble. It will idle rough almost like rotational type of shimmy hard to explain, but it will run rought for a second, then smooth for a second, then rough for a second and so on.
It does not seem to be effected when the rpm's are any higher then idle. The tac always stays steady and does not fluctuate with the idle at all. Reseting the computer after changing IAC fixed the stalling for about 3 days. I reset the computer today when changing the CKP Sensor, and its not stalling, but the idle still seems to rough. I have already had it in the shop 2 times, and they say the famous I realy should'nt be a mechanic saying of "We ran the diagnostics through the computer and it said everything was fine", so I really don't want to take it back again.
I do have a vacum gauge, but not sure if that would help diagnose it or not I use it to tune my dart, never on a fuel injected vehicle. BTW- There is no check engine light, and I have pulled the codes 3 times with nothing showing using the key trick 2 times, and AutoZone pulled once. If anyone has any insight into this at all, even if one of the "havent changed parts" fixed your idle issueplease, please, please, please let me know.

I am not recieving and messages or check engine lights at all. How about your plug wires?
Though, if you've got one bad enough to cause a miss, it should throw the CEL. How'd your old plugs look?? Any indication of anything amiss??Our Address. Kings Mills, OH I have a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4. I have changed the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, it needed it anyway. I have no check engine light, and it seems like it has a random misfire, only at idle.
The exhaust smells like it is running rich at idle, but goes away at every speed above idle. I am waiting for my OBD2 scan tool to be returned to me in the mail so I can check the fuel trim and O2 sensors. Can somebody suggest what I should check next?
Some history on the vehicle, odometer is k miles, had a 70k mile motor and transmission installed at k. After the motor and trans was installed, the mechanic gave me a box with a throttle body, fuel rail, and 6 fuel injectors in it. So I think there might be a chance that there is a set of k mile old injectors in this motor. I just could use a hint on which direction I should go next. Thank you. For that you might start with a compression test.

I know some people here in corpus who might have some ideas. At idle and at like Are they OEM? Even though the exhaust is new you could still have a leak at a connection. Intake leak? What rom do you idle at? Does the engine feel sluggish like the pedal is doing nothing? Dirty TPS causes flat spot s in the pedal. No leaks from manifold back as have checked it first off only 4 welds on whole new exaust system 2 at cat on eather side and 2 on muffler at eather side and all are good As startup it idels at rpm and drops to after a few mins of warmup only time it drops below is when i come up to stops and almost bogs out and feels like its going to die but picks up seconds later Gas pedal is extreamly responsive small tap and engine revs right up.
This is the part on your intake tube between the filter and throttle body, with the wires connected to it. Join Date Feb Posts Was it running rich? What temp thermostat is in it? Forum related. Join thousands of other Jeep fans as we tackle Wrangler problems and more.Rear-wheel drive. A few years ago my Jeep began running rough and the check engine light came on. A few days later the rough idle smoothed out and the check engine light went off. I bought a basic reader, but it only tells me multiple random misfires. Sometimes it is on cylinder 2 only or cylinder 1 and 5 only and other times Now it is on all 6 cylinders.
I tried fixing it by changing out plugs and wires, checking the gap on the plugs, cleaning the carburetor, and finally taking it in to my mechanic. No clogs in the rail either. He said new found compression from fixing the problem might cause further problems.
Intermittent rough idle
Luckily it passed its smog test this year. Of course 3 days later it started running rough again, which triggered the check engine light. The rough idle seems to be provoked by my lead foot. If I drive nice the problem occurs less often and for shorter periods of time.
This last incident though has lasted over two weeks. The check engine light is still on but the idle has smoothed out a bit. My questions are: 1. How could a bent exhaust valve cause the engine to run rough sometimes and normal others? What is causing the rough idle? How do I fix it? I love the vehicle, but the frustration is getting to me.
Check that the distributor shaft bushes are not warn, get the dwell checked if it is fluctuating beyond allowable limits this may well be the problem, I go down this path as I have seen quite a few distributors on these fail. Was this answer. I'll post what I find. Thank you. I took off the cap and inspected the rotor, cap points, and the distributor shaft.
Since performing the inspection the jeeps performance has declined. Rougher timing I'm assuming this means the bushings on the distributor are bad and it needs to be replaced. This is the longest period of time the vehicle has ran this rough without smoothing out. It will depend on the dwell reading and how stable it is, this can be checked quickly by a mechanic and make sure that the points are not arching due to a faulty capacitor you really do need to check these things electronically to determine how bad they are.

I get email surveys all the time that offer a discount or chance to enter a contest in exchange for a review. Most of the travel booking sites send you an email after your purchase to review the site and after you return from your trip to review the airline, hotel, etc. In the age of social media the voice of the customer is more and more important each day, so being able to communicate with your clients and having into account their words is for sure the way to go.
Good service and easy access to write reviews is a good way. A great round up. A great way to get them is send a follow up email after an ecommerce customer has received there order.
Amazon sends me one when I buy. Your list has given me a few good ideas. I think some people are just naturally more comfortable writing a testimonial on one platform over another, so giving them the option to do so everywhere you can and then compiling it all later will get you the most response. Good tips, especially the YouTube one.
For some potential customers, these may carry more weight. My company (Tortuga Backpacks) compiles quotes from 3rd party reviews on a Reviews page with links back to the original article. We also use these quotes on our product page as social proof. Definitely a great idea Fred. A client (plumbing company) already has in place a next day follow-up phone call to make sure that everything has been done well and the client is happy.
They mentioned that some customers said they had wanted to leave a review on Google, Yelp etc, but did not want to register an account, so had not done so. After speaking with the customer on the phone the company sends them a thank you email with a discount coupon for their next call. Reviews are then added to the testimonial page on the website. Making the process as simple as possible is likely to lead to more testimonials. This gives our customers the option to do what they want (which goes along with- not wanting to create accounts just to leave a review) so they can choose where they already have an account.
Also this helps to get us a multi-facet of reviews from ALL over the web- and not just ONE place (like facebook). Goal here is (1) Make this is EASY AS POSSIBLE for customers (2) Offer them something of value in exchange for their TIME. Typically if we have done a good job in customer service and someone is telling us how much they like our product, we will take that opportunity to ask if they would like to submit a testimonial for our website.
A lot of times they are excited because it provides some exposure for them and maybe even a link back to their site. Thanks for the compilation. I think the creativity for some businesses would be setting up the portals and content so that people will be attracted to them to make the testimonials, such as a great Facebook fan page, videos on YouTube, etc.
